PRSA-LA: Unconscious Bias Discussion

Thank you to PRSA Los Angeles chapter for inviting me to speak to the group about Unconscious Bias in the workplace.

The interactive workshop focused the three main characteristics of UB: safety, familiarity and success. We discussed not only the importance of creating awareness, but taking the necessary steps in managing these blind spot.

It’s been my experience that people often try to avoid engaging in these types of diversity and inclusion conversations because they fear falling into politically correct traps. On the contrary, it is only by allowing ourselves to discuss and debate these issues that we learn and grow.

Unconscious Bias is all about what makes us feel comfortable. In order to be effective in realizing the potential which diversity promises…we need to be willing to embrace feeling uncomfortable.

I hope to see you in a future workshop!
